Minuteman Lunch

Our Sr. Pastor was not able to attend the Petro-Sun Independence Bowl Minuteman Lunch today, so I got to fill in and give the Invocation.  I prayed for both teams–Oklahoma State University vs. Univ. of Alabama–and the food before heading back to my breaded chicken and steak medallions.  The highlight was sitting behind a hero of mine from growing up as a Dallas Cowboy fan–Rayfield Wright, pro football hall of famer and now head of Petro-Sun.  I was at the head table behind the head table, sitting directly behind Rayfield. I didn’t get his autograph, but did get this amazing photo of him:

I sat next to the Director of the Independence Bowl, who sat next to State Senator Edwin R. Murray, from New Orleans.  The OSU coach was down the table, but Alabama’s coach was busy cleaning out his desk.

Albert Crews was crowned Sportsman of the Year for his golfing skills as seen on Golf Channel’s "Big Break VI."  It turns out that Albert is an Associate Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Homer, LA.  Albert, where do you find the time?!

Also honored was three-star General Harold Moore, with the Omar N. Bradley Spirit of Independence Award.  You may remember his book, "We Were Soldiers Once . . .and Young" or as the character Mel Gibson played in the movie by the same name.  In the interview, he was asked to give some words of leadership wisdom.  He said several things, but the nugget Iiked best was, "In baseball, there are three strikes and you’re out.  Not so in life.  You always have something else you can do.  And then something else.  Our young people need to hear this."  Good stuff.
